Let’s be honest, 2020 kinda sucks. We can’t travel, social activities are kept to a minimum, and who knows when we’ll be able to fly internationally again from the U.S.
But for the sake of trying to look on the bright side of a bad year, at least saving money is easier than ever now. There’s no chance that you’ll overspend on bars and restaurants when most of them aren’t even open!
So in lieu of actually taking trips this year, I’ve decided to use some of that extra time to methodically plan all of the trips I’m hoping to take NEXT year!
Here are the trips that are on my 2021 Travel Bucket List!
Hawai’i, USA
Hawai’i is first on the list because I think it is the most realistic. Currently, if you travel to Hawai’i, you will be subject to a mandatory 14-day quarantine due to COVID-19. However, Hawai’i is planning on rolling out a pre-travel testing program where travelers would be exempt from the quarantine if they test negative for COVID-19 within 72 hours of travel. The program is scheduled to begin on October 1st at the earliest, per the Hawai’i Tourism Authority. If you’re thinking about planning a Hawai’i trip, make sure you stay up-to-date on the mandatory quarantine rules and book refundable flights and accommodations if you can.
We’re planning on venturing to the Big Island of Hawai’i and splitting our time between the two main cities, Hilo and Kona. We’re most excited to see Volcano National Park and to go snorkeling at 2 Step Beach!
Copenhagen, Denmark
World Pride 2021 will be held in Copenhagen in August, we’re hoping to experience it first-hand! We hope to participate in the Pride March, where tens of thousands of open & accepting individuals will join together to march in support of the right to love freely. Because love is love is love is love.
We look forward to experiencing the Copenhagen nightlife and indulging in Danish cuisine. We’re also excited to see Nyhavn, a boat harbor and one of the most colorful, iconic spots in Copenhagen!
Thailand
I think this is the trip for which I’m most excited. Traveling to Thailand has been on my to-do list for a HOT minute. There are so many amazing looking cities in Thailand, I don’t know how we’re going to choose which cities to visit! We’re thinking Chiang Mai and Phuket, and possibly Phi Phi Islands. I’d also love to see Khao Sok National Park! Though to be honest, I’m more excited about the food than anything!
Buenos Aires, Argentina
I’ve gotta brush up on my Spanish for this one! I’ve wanted to visit Buenos Aires since I heard about their show-stopping empanadas and local vino tinto. We won’t miss seeing La Boca, also known as Buenos Aires’ most colorful neighborhood, and the Caminito Street Museum. We can’t wait to explore Plaza de Mayo and learn about the important landmarks lining the streets, such as Casa Rosada.
Australia
We’ve been itching to see Australia since we got back from New Zealand. Sydney and Melbourne are the two largest cities in Australia and we’re excited to experience them both! In Sydney, we’re planning to see Darling Harbour and to visit the iconic Paddy’s Market. We’ll definitely spend some time at Bondi Beach, one of Australia’s most famous beaches. In Melbourne, we look forward to visiting some of the 100+ art galleries and sip on the world-renowned coffee!
These are all the trips that are on my 2021 travel bucket list!
Full disclosure, some of these will probably drift into 2022. We have no idea when we will be able to travel internationally from America again. But let’s hope that it’s soon, for the wanderers’ sake.
